Never thought I’d read about baseball and a father catching his child in labor room in the same poem but you did it, and it was BRILLIANT!

That last stanza stamps deeper meaning on all the rest. Great closing phrase.

Very well done! I don't like/ know much about sports either, it just was something my family hasn't followed, but this poem captured the moments and thrill of baseball. Watching sports in poetry form? Now that I can do lol! :D

I love baseball. I love poetry. This is perfect.

I am also of the firm belief that artists should watch more sports and sports fans should consume more art. They have so much more in common than people realize.

yes!! I 100%% agree. I could write a whole essay about how much passion and skill is poured into both and how much inspiration each produces

(and, this poem definitely did not get as much response as my usual nature poems, which I fully expected, but I'm glad some of y'all enjoyed. There's room/need in this world for sports poetry :D)

Sports poets rise up! And idk if you know the account Art But Make It Sports but it’s incredible.

"Lose gravity, loose hold of ropes and lines,

Fly toward home base,

And rise and rise into cloudless blue skies."

I'm more of a cricket man but I always think of fathers and sons when I think of baseball. I couldn't help but imagine a son running to his father after hitting a ball. Then it made me think of hitting our last ball and then soaring into heavenly arms. So good. Great poem!

I loved “So we make things rise.” Easily my favorite line of the poem!

thank you for reading Heather!! ❤️❤️ I was kind of startled when this "other" theme of wonder/rising/relief broke in, since I was planning to write a very grounded poem about baseball (LOL) but glad it resonated with you!

If you are going to do more sports poetry, some sweat and smells would be nice, but this was mighty fine.
